Anxiety Project

The Anxiety project was a series of typographic posters that I created in my junior year of college. The project was to take a topic and explore it through the posters below. The first poster was to use full paragraphs. The second individual words or phrases. The third, individual syllables and the fourth only using individual letters. I chose to focus on Anxiety, I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and it plays a major role in my daily life. As such I figured it was the most impactful topic I could focus on.

In the first poster you can see the medical definition of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) highlighted in white. This is contrasted by anecdotes from people who suffer from anxiety.

For the second poster, I wanted to try and visualize the intense sense of fear and danger that anxiety can create. Since I could only use words/phrases for this poster, it felt like the best way to do it was to keep it simple.

For the third poster I could only syllables so I broke up the word anxiety and visualized the sinking feeling that it can create.

Finally, I wanted to portray the freefall into a sea of thought - thoughts that no matter what you try have no real coherence and either slip away just as fast as they appear or stay to cause you torment for some time. This poster could only use a single letter so I used the letter A, in order to portray the internal anger and screaming that can occur in this state.
